Photography ignites in me a passion for exploring the world and the intricacies within it. Whether shooting a vast landscape or exposing some detail of life, I am taken away by the whole process of examining a subject and deciding how to portray it. When my photos connect with others and stir some emotion for them, it brings an additional realm of fulfillment.
Spending countless hours driving country roads, I search for abandoned farmyards to explore. Finding a remnant from the past gives me the opportunity to capture a glimpse of history-to examine life or express a mood. One of my greatest fascinations is focusing attention on common, simple objects while de-emphasizing the grander things usually noticed. Using color, perspective and texture, I seek to create interesting views of life and our world, while giving some recognition to the beauty and function of things generally taken for granted.
When shooting landscapes, I attempt to compose views that draw people into them-to create scenes one can enter, rather than merely view. Whether a grand vista or a peaceful little spot, I'd like the viewer to feel as though they are there, experiencing the beauty of the world and the ambience of that moment.
Wildlife provides the unique challenge of capturing the subject in its essence-of portraying it naturally, yet artistically. This requires devising a more engaging composition than a portrait, as well as getting into the necessary position to take the photograph without disturbing the animal. Ideally, the photograph is more than a recording of a species for the wildlife enthusiast but a window to nature all can enjoy.
Photography is an experience that provides me with great contentment. I hope my images provide pleasure for your soul, as well as your eyes.
