Wildcat Den State Park

  • May 13, 2014

When in Davenport IA for the Beaux Arts Fest, I found some time to do a little hiking at Wildcat Den State Park–a pretty little park about 20 miles Southwest of Davenport.  The hiking path circles a large rock formation, with much of the trail beside beautifully colored and heavily textured rock cliffs.  The trail also winds through an area called “Devil’s Punchbowl.”  This area has large cavernous channels in the rock that have been carved out by water…it almost looks like a giant natural water slide.  The trees provided a fresh, green canopy over the entire trail.  I hope to one day visit the park when the trees are in fall colors, as the rock walls will compliment the fall foliage, and I imagine it must be magnificent!
